As is usual in situations like this, there is too much
information available (good, bad, and otherwise).
I don't claim that my information is any better, but
my take is that the problem seems to be primarily
outside the US and is only with the name brand
Sinemet (not generics). A good starting place is this
letter from Merck. While you are at this site,
I would suggest you look around. They have links to a
large number of PD Blogs and other PD (and other health issues)
related sites that looked interesting.
